The Importance of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Social and emotional learning (SEL) helps children understand emotions, build positive relationships, make responsible decisions, and manage behaviors effectively. Educators play an important role in supporting children’s emotional well-being and helping students develop lifelong skills for success in school and everyday life.

Research shows that early experiences, supportive relationships, and responsive caregiving strongly influence children’s social and emotional development. Teachers who intentionally teach SEL skills create safe learning environments where children can develop empathy, communication skills, self-confidence, and self-regulation.
